Bhavana Malhotra

I am Bhavana Malhotra, Director of Engineering at Slack. In my current role, I lead the Webapp Infrastructure pillar, comprising of sub-teams that focus on language, runtime, reliability, and asynchronous job services. My team develops best practices for our main language, Hack, and invests in our runtime performance and runs development and infrastructure for Slack's async job queues to ensure the smooth functioning of Slack for millions of users. We also work on improving reliability for our biggest service, enabling Slack to scale to new heights. In my previous role as Senior Engineering Manager, I was responsible for leading the Language and Runtime and Performance Infrastructure teams at Slack. I have also played a key role in contributing to open source projects and driving coding best practices within the organization. My focus on mentorship and passion for technology has helped me excel in my career at Slack, where I have played a key role in transforming business communication and driving our mission forward. During the course of my career as an Engineering Leader, I have gained a tonne of experience in building and leading high performing teams from ground up, leading teams through acquisition related change management(at multiple companies) and coaching several engineers and managers from all walks of career. In my free time, I enjoy baking and exploring new places. I also enjoy learning about new technologies, leadership best practices and advancements in the field. My passion for mentorship has also led me to volunteer as a mentor for early-in-career women in STEM fields, helping them reach their full potential. I am dedicated to my work at Slack and am constantly seeking new ways to innovate and improve our platform for our users.
