I've been managing design teams for over 9 years, helping to build teams, grow designers and help designers find their best career paths, either as individual contributors or managers. To me Design Management isn't a promotion but an alternate path based on skill and interest. I currently lead design teams at Google, and formerly lead design at Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that runs Wikipedia, Autodesk, and many award winning design consultancies.
