Seeking Engineering Excellence - dealing with Tech Debt

First Session:

Hosted by Bruce Wang

Dir of Engineering, Games Developer Platform at Netflix

Our stack was a "sink" for debt, and we've slowly rearchitected our way out of it. Its not done yet, but we're on a good path. We're now innovating on debt through a new team called "technology lifecycle innovation" who's purpose is to make migrating, deprecating and deleting tech easier.

Circle Description

Tech debt is an expected byproduct of software engineering, so whether you are a startup of 2 people or a 25+ year old company with multi-generations of technology, you will have debt. However, despite this being such an integral part of software engineering, we don't have many tools at our disposal to handle it. In this circle, we will delve into the complexities of debt, how to champion it and ultimately how to manage it in the pursuit of engineering excellence and accelerating product innovation.

What people are saying about Bruce

I am always impressed with Bruce's ability to listen and give spot-on advice on how to deal with any situation. I experienced burnout recently and Bruce was really able to figure out (by asking the right questions) why did this happen to me, and how to deal with it in the future. He can give very good advice, but also guide you such that you are able to figure out what to do on your own. I think Bruce helps to not only to grow as a leader, but most importantly as a person. Really "eye-opening" mentorship! :)
